Featured on Houzz: A Private Sanctuary in Maple Grove

We are incredibly honored to announce that our Maple Grove Master Bathroom project was recently featured as "Bathroom of the Week" on Houzz.

In a home with three active teenage daughters, the primary suite needs to be more than just a place to get ready—it needs to be a restorative sanctuary. This remodel was about carving out a sophisticated, "parents-only" zone where soothing aesthetics meet the precision required for a high-performance life.Bringing Light and Warmth Below Grade

To ensure the bathroom felt airy and welcoming, we focused on materials that maximize light and introduce a sense of natural warmth.

The design begins with a perfect balance of cool tones and organic elements:

  • Natural Wood Vanity: We selected a white oak vanity with a crisp white countertop. This natural wood element is crucial for introducing warmth and grounding the space, preventing the subterranean location from feeling cold.

  • Clean Palette: A refreshing light blue palette was incorporated through the tile choice, complemented by clean, light grey tiling in the shower, creating a bright and airy atmosphere.

From "Dated 90s" to Designer Retreat

dated builder grade bathroom featuring double vanity and large mirror

Before our intervention, this Houzz featured bathroom felt uninspired, with standard builder-grade finishes, powder blue walls, and a clunky layout. Our clients craved a room that felt like a boutique hotel: moody, organic, and entirely separate from the rest of the home’s hustle and bustle.

Sophisticated Storage: Quartersawn White Oak

To ground the room in warmth, we designed a custom double vanity made of quartersawn white oak with a deep, rich stain.

  • The Storage Tower: Rather than cluttering the countertop, we integrated a tall storage tower to the right of the vanity. Featuring reeded glass doors, it provides a subtle "glow" from within while elegantly concealing daily essentials.

  • The Styling Drawer: Functionality is hidden in the details. We included a dedicated drawer with built-in outlets for hair tools, ensuring the counters remain clear and the environment stays calm.

True luxury in design is often found in the balance of symmetry and texture. In this view, the modern zigzag sconce acts as a central sculptural anchor between the dual medicine cabinets, drawing the eye upward to appreciate the soft, plaster-like depth of the limewashed walls.

Notice the furniture-style legs at the base of the vanity; this intentional detail lifts the dark-stained quartersawn white oak off the floor, creating a sense of "visual air". This prevents the large double vanity from feeling heavy or overbearing, ensuring the room feels like a curated primary suite rather than a standard utilitarian bathroom.

Artistry in Stone: Fusion Quartzite

The true "showstopper" of the room is the Fusion Quartzite used for the countertops and backsplash. This natural stone is a masterpiece of swirling blues, grays, and creams. To give it the weight it deserved, we utilized mitered edges, creating the illusion of a thick, solid slab that acts as the room's primary piece of art.

A Grand Corner for Relaxation

The bathtub is positioned in a serene corner framed by two windows. To elevate the design, we chose floor-to-ceiling curtains instead of standard blinds. This choice gives the windows a grand feeling, while the fabric serves to soften the architectural lines and add a layer of warmth to the hard surfaces of the bathroom. At the center of this nook is a sculptural freestanding oval tub, creating the ultimate spot for decompressing.

Separate Luxury: The Illuminated Shower

We kept the showering area distinct from the bath to allow for two unique relaxation rituals. The walk-in shower is designed for sensory appeal, wrapped floor-to-ceiling in matte, mid-tone gray porcelain tile. A custom, extra-long niche features an integrated LED light strip, providing a soft, spa-like ambiance for evening routines.

Modern Textures & Lighting

To avoid the "cold" feeling of a typical bathroom, we used a limewash finish on the walls in Sherwin-Williams Gossamer Veil. This adds an organic, plaster-like depth that feels soft and timeless. Finally, we swapped traditional over-mirror lighting for a vertical LED zigzag sconce in black, providing perfectly even light for morning routines while acting as a piece of modern wall art.
